The Northern Scotland branch of the Association of Women in Property is celebrating their 20th Anniversary by announcing a year-long Partnering Agreement with Stewart Milne Homes as well as some new initiatives.
The group, which represents professional women across the property and construction industries, is seen as one of the most proactive within the UK-wide network, despite it being the smallest - they have just 50 members out of 1,200 nationwide.“We decided last year that we should use our special birthday year to really focus hard on some initiatives and to use the noise around the birthday to promote them” says Jan Emery, Chair. “Our work in mentoring and education, and our growing relationship with Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) in Houston are the two primary initiatives going forward.” “It’s been clear for a while that in stepping up our activity in this way, we would benefit from a genuine Partnership with a company who could really help us expand our offering. We approached Stewart Milne Homes because many of their objectives match our own in terms of investing in young people for the future.” Jacquie Forbes, Development Director of Stewart Milne Homes said “Stewart Milne Homes is particularly pleased to be partnering Women in Property in their 20th Anniversary Year. The opportunity to contribute to the National Awards Programme and encourage young people into the industry is something we fully support” Women in Property has worked closely with Robert Gordon University (RGU) on the National Awards Programme which is designed in such a way that it will also provide ongoing mentoring and networking opportunities for students long before their courses are complete. The Programme is non-technical, but focuses on students’ commercial awareness, communication skills and their ability to effectively present innovative concepts. “The low numbers of talented young people coming into the sector is of great concern to us all and we’re keen to forge strong links with other organisations to help address the issue. We have chosen The Construction Youth Trust (CYT) to facilitate the Programme, to provide independence and consistency and it also allows CYT to promote the ways in which they can support young people considering a career in property and construction” said Jan Emery. There will be a strong focus on the programme at the Birthday Celebrations to be held at the Marcliffe on 9th March. The event has been sold out since last November, and will be attended by over 300 female and male professionals from across the Industry. Jan Emery, Business Development Manager for architectural and space planning practice Space Solutions ends her term as Chair shortly, and her successor will be elected at the AGM “I’ve been involved in WIP since I came to Aberdeen” says Jan “Every year we’ve grown in strength and learned more about how we can be most effective. Taking the Chair role has been a great learning for me and a terrific chance to contribute in a landmark year. Agreeing a Partnering Programme with Stewart Milne Homes has put the icing on the cake” |
