Space Celebrate Lucrative Six Months for Operations Division

Booming Business Sparks Search for New Premises

THE central belt operations division of Scottish architecture and space planning business Space Solutions has netted contracts worth in excess of £600,000 since the start of the year, prompting a search for larger premises.

The company’s in-house commercial logistics management and furniture installation services have been drawn on by organisations of all shapes and sizes in the past eight months.

Most recently the company secured the contract to install more than 2,500 workstations and 4,000 cabinet modules at Queen Margaret University campus in Edinburgh – believed to be the largest project of its type taking place in Scotland this year.

The influx of new business has seen the division outgrow its premises in Livingston and the search is now on for a new site which is four times the size of the existing one.

Other high profile contracts secured by the company in the past six months include a two-week contract to project manage the installation of furniture and equipment during the creation of the new Montrose Care Home and Day Centre in Paisley run by Renfrewshire Council. Space Solutions were appointed by client Wagstaff Interiors to manage the installation of all furniture and equipment into the new facility.

The state of the art care home, which caters for up to 60 residents, is part of a wider project to create three new facilities for the elderly in the area.

Space Solutions has also recently completed work on an eight week project to install office furniture at Chevron’s prestigious new premises at Hill of Rubislaw in Aberdeen and has won a string of PPP schools projects across Scotland.

Space continues to develop their relationship with Nortek following successful PPP supply chain and site implementation projects in Hereford and East Renfrewshire and has been appointed as logistics service provider for the East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire School PPP projects. These will see Space provide on-site implementation personnel as well as an integrated supply-chain from the manufacturer in Germany.

The operations division works in partnership with customers to devise the optimum installation logistics strategy to suit their project schedule, with the bonus of having access to the full range of Space Solutions expertise and knowledge.

The core service menu includes installation services (product installation, site and project management plus project planning) and warehousing services (product consolidation and delivery with comprehensive distribution infrastructure, short and long term secure storage packages). These are all undertaken by trained installation engineers in full compliance with health and safety legislation.

David Brunt, Space Solutions business manager for the operations division, said: “The development into PPP contracts makes great use of the skills available from the Space team.  As we can offer storage facilities at warehouses in Livingston and Aberdeen, we are well placed to offer a completely integrated solution, including storage, distribution and installation in addition to a comprehensive logistics management package.

“Each of these contracts reflects our ongoing commitment to meet the present and future needs of our clients whilst reinforcing our drive towards becoming the foremost furniture logistics supplier in Scotland and the first choice for furniture manufacturers.”

Derek Binnie, director of Space Solutions, said: “We have made significant investment in our operations division in recent months in line with our growth plans for the whole Space Solutions central belt operation. It is clear from the response we have had from our clients that this is a great additional service which fully complements our existing space planning and contracting capabilities.”
